Epic Buddies! Quick Rules

Epic Buddies is a Fiction-First tabletop roleplaying game system.

Below is an in-depth description of the game to give you an idea of what it's about, or you can visit our website epicbuddiesgame.com for all the info you need and a browser-viewable version of the rules.

What does this mean? It means that the person running the game is a Storyteller, they are in charge of crafting a narrative that is compelling and fun to play. Traditionally time-consuming mechanics (calculations and such) are reduced in favour of spinning a good yarn. Our system is built to accommodate flexibility, and to prevent the flow of a story getting bogged down by number crunching and constant referencing.

Players: 1 Storyteller and 1+ Players.

Required: Writing gear and a D6 (six-sided die). If you have no die, ask a search engine or digital assistant to "Roll a dice".

Epic Buddies is made for anyone to experience any type of story; from first-time roleplayers, to experienced dungeoneers and everything in-between. The Epic Buddies system can be used to tell the kinds of stories you enjoy, be it homebrew, adapted from the campaign books of other tabletop games, or even lifted from your favourite novel, movie, TV show, or video game. 

With many great tabletop game systems out there, it can be time-consuming to learn, or to teach newcomers complicated rulesets. Epic Buddies is pick-up-and-play: It’s quick to learn, easy to take with you, and can be as in-depth or as simple as you like. 

The two page Quick Rules can be printed on a single sheet of A4 back to back (duplex).
If you want to provide new players fewer rules, they can be given the Player Page instead of the Quick Rules (as long as the Storyteller knows the Quick Rules).

Print out a copy of the Character Sheet for each player. 

There are also double-sided playing card rules which are stripped down and super portable!

We have a full gamebook in the works that provides much more detail, FAQs, tips, suggestions, and nice artwork (this will be available as soon as we’ve closed the public beta playtesting, and have given it one last layer of polish). Until this is available, these Quick Rules can get you started and we humbly ask for any amount you wish to donate to support the development of Epic Buddies!

We are playing the game ourselves, and have plenty of sessions recorded to share our tales with the world, and we would love to hear what adventures you undertake. Step 1 - Choose your Talents and assign each one with a unique Aptitude. Create 3 Epic Skills just for you.

Step 2 - When asked by the Storyteller, roll the Talent for the Action you are attempting.

Step 3 - Buddy system! Ask a Buddy to roll if your roll Failed so that they can help out!

Step 4 - Benefit from being Trained, and experience extra losses or gains with Epic Roll results.
